Working

The uninterruptible power supply works on the basic principle of proving emergency backup power in case of power failure. In a way, it provides an interface between the user's machine and the main electric supply. The UPS accepts the alternating current (AC) from the main power line and stores it as direct current (DC) in the battery. When a power interruption situation is faced, the UPS would automatically supply the power to the machine in AC with uninterrupted and stable power output. Hence justifying the term "uninterruptible power supply".

Types

Uninterruptible power supply ranges from 350VA to 6MVA. There are basically two types of UPS. These are the Stand By UPS and the Continuous UPS. They both share their similarities and have their differences. The basic similarity between the two is that they both remain connected directly to the machine and have a standard battery. The major difference is that a stand by UPS would only switch to battery power when it detects a power failure whereas a continuous UPS would always have the machine running from the battery therefore constantly charging it.

Uses

As the name says, the uninterruptible power supply is a means of providing power supply without any interruptions and with a stable output. If the UPS senses a power fluctuation, then it automatically switches the machine onto the battery supply. Also, the minimum backup time that the UPS gives is about 15 minutes. This is ample enough for either the user to save the data or switch to another means of regular supply depending on the region and mode of use.

When it comes to the concept of uninterruptible power supply, the UPS is an inevitable device that not only does the same in milliseconds, but also keeps a base of peaceful and secure working conditions while doing so. Hence, the use of UPS is surely invigorating.
