Uninterruptible Power Supply Protects From Power Disturbances

Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) enables you to carry on working on a computer when there is a sudden loss of power

. A primary battery of UPS provides the power for a specific time period. Therefore, it prevents from the chances of hardware failure or data loss from a sudden failure of your system.

Uninterruptible power supply is used to protect data when the power fails by just bringing a server down using a UPS software that detects a power failure. Therefore, the right uninterruptible power supply can save you money when voltage/current discharges or when the electricity goes out.

Advantages of Uninterruptible Power Supply

If you loose your data then it can have the problems of viruses, worms etc. Therefore, using an antivirus software and firewalls protect your servers and workstations. But electrical disturbances can be equally destructive and can cause damage to your data as well as hardware.

A UPS software is most valuable software to protect your damages from electrical power disturbances. It keeps a computer running for a few minutes after a power outage. So, it enables you to save data manually and shut down the computer delicately.

Now, most UPSes are offering very sophisticated software that can work in conjunction with the system and allows you to automate data backup as well as system shutdown procedures if a power fails.

The important function of quality uninterruptible power supply is that it protects from power deviation like voltage/current discharge, power sags, electrical line noise and surges from reaching the computer as power deviation is the main cause of system freezes, hardware damage and data loss.

Types of Uninterruptible Power Supply

There are four types of UPS system: Online, Offline, Ferroresonnant and Line-interactive.

1. Online: An offline or standby UPS does not provide enough protection against large power sags, voltage spikes or A/C frequency variations. When a power failure is detected under an offline UPS, a switch is activated and then power is supplied from the battery.

2. Offline: An online UPS provides a much protection because of its great power-conditioning capabilities. The line A/C current is used to charge the UPS's battery with this UPS.

3. Line-interactive: Under normal conditions, electricity passes through the noise filters and surge suppressors before going into an inverter.

4. Ferroresonnant: UPS uses a ferroresonant transformer to keep power supplied when the UPS switches to standby power.
