Whether you choose the beach, the forest, or another outdoor landscape, you'll all enjoy the relaxing fun of an old fashioned picnic.
How About a Cookout?
Fire up the grill and enjoy some meaty hot dogs and hamburgers with your guests. You'll probably want to consider hiring a friend who isn't involved in the wedding preparations to man the grill. That way, your family and guests can relax and get to know one another without having to worry about any dinner preparations.
Dessert-Only Reception
Why not consider a dessert party? People can still get to know one another over coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and a variety of snacks. In addition to sweets and pastries, you may want to include some salty snacks like nuts, chips, or even bite-sized sandwiches. You can feature a wide variety of breakfast fare including pastries, donuts, breakfast casseroles and other common breakfast items. Be sure to have coffee and tea on hand too! Depending on the size of your party, your local coffee shop may be more than willing to host the event.
Game Night with the Family
It may sound funny to have a game night planned for your rehearsal dinner venue, but there's no better way to break the ice than a rousing game of Trivial Pursuit, Catch-Phrase, or Pictionary! So, pull out the games, break out the snacks, and have fun getting to know one another. You'll probably want to provide finger-foods like sandwiches, chips, pretzels, and veggies. Drinks could include sodas, lemonade, and other casual fare.
Stick with Sports
If both families are particularly fond of sports, perhaps you could host the dinner at a local ball game? Get seats that are close enough to watch the game, but quiet enough to talk with one another, and enjoy some quality time with your wedding party. You could purchase game day fare from the vendors at the game, or bring your own (if allowed).
