University isn't the only option, jobs can be just as lucrative
A level results were published this week, leaving hundreds of thousands of students celebrating or re-thinking their future
.
Whilst millions will line up for induction at the UK's universities, students are starting to realise that they can reach their dream career through apprenticeships or well planned
jobs.
The BBC profiled some students who passed their A level exams and secured lucrative jobs across the country.
Das Birkamjit Gakhal earned himself an A, two Bs and a C at A level. After applying to university and being offered places on degrees, he has since decided he can achieve his ambition of becoming an accountant by working in relevant jobs whilst completing vocational qualifications. He will study for an Association of Accounting Technicians qualification, then study with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
"It's a much quicker route than university - you become chartered in four years," Das told The BBC. "Whereas if I went to university, it's four years and then I'd still have to do my ACCA qualification, which normally takes two years."
Das said record levels of debt and graduate unemployment deterred him from completing a degree: "I was worried about debt, about coming out with all that debt on my shoulders. And then you hear in the news that graduates are graduating ... but they're not able to find a job."
Over 170,000 students will miss out on a place at university this year. As Channel 4 News reported, university isn't the only option. A website dedicated to exploring post-A level options with students advised that everyone who received their results should discuss their options with someone they trust to ensure they embark on the right path.
By choosing jobs instead of degrees, students will be able to earn money instead of amass significant debts, they can get a head start on their career path which, as long as they work hard and are focused, can see them have a head start on their peers who spend three or four years in education only to graduate and face potentially massive levels of graduate unemployment.
