Unlimited Bandwidth Hosting: What's The Catch?

I am not sure if you have noticed, but it is starting to feel like everything to do with hosting has become 'unlimited'

. We now have 'unlimited space', unlimited domains' and even 'unlimited bandwidth hosting'!

So how are they able to offer all this and still have such low prices? While it all sounds good, unlimited bandwidth and space hosting doesn't really work out - it is much too costly.

So what is the catch? How are these web hosts able to offer unlimited bandwidth hosting to all their clients and still turn a profit?

The answer comes in a few truths about website hosting.

Most Website Owners Don't Really Use Much Of Their Stats

The average website owner has just one simple website that doesn't get any traffic, so even though they have 'unlimited hosting' - they are using only a tiny part of it. And because it is cheap - they don't care!

The hosting companies know that most webmasters high expectations of their websites and think that they are going to get millions of visitors and need a heap of space - but the truth is that only a small percentage do!

Unlimited Bandwidth Hosting Isn't Unlimited

The truth is that most hosting companies actually do have limits on their 'unlimited hosting'.

They do this by way of an excessive use clause that is something like this:

4(b) XXX XXXX reserves the right to immediately suspend or terminate SERVICES to a Subscriber generating excessive bandwidth to the server(s), or using excessive server resources.

This means that if you get unlimited bandwidth hosting and your site becomes a little to popular for your hosts liking,and they think you are using too much of your 'unlimited' supply - they can terminate your hosting account.

So There is a catch!

Does that mean that we shouldn't choose an unlimited account?

Not at all! Considering almost all web hosts offer unlimited hosting accounts it is safe to say that this is all you will need until you want to upgrade to a VPS.
