These bad faith terminations have saved these Defendants a billion dollars.UNUMPROVIDENT'S USE OF IME'S IN DENYING DISABILITY INSURANCE CLAIMSThis article concerns one facet of these companies scheme to rip-off insured. Here, we discuss the use of independent medical examinations, ("IME's") in denying disability insurance claims. The following are findings of fact and law in a Federal trial concerning Unum, Unumprovident, Provident Life, and Paul Revere companies:Employees were instructed to limit their use of independent medical examinations. They were told that IMEs were not to be used unless absolutely necessary. The limitation on the use of IMEs to gather information is part and parcel of another practice--that of overvaluing the opinions of in-house medical personnel who never examine the insured over the opinions of either treating physicians or IME doctors. Similarly, Defendants' in-house medical personnel engage in cherry picking records to find grounds for denying claims regardless of actual merit. Documentary evidence establishes that in-house medical personnel "focus upon any apparent inconsistencies in the medical records or other information supplied by claimants, rather than attempt to derive a thorough understanding of the claimant's medical condition."Unum, Unumprovident, Provident Life, and Paul Revere companies have a practice of piecemealing claimants' medical conditions and do not consider the totality of the medical circumstances. These outrageous tactics used by Unum, Unumprovident, Provident Life, and Paul Revere companies are an incredible testament to greed.
