Unusual Gifts That Are Out Of This World
Sometimes finding the right gift for someone can be difficult
. Read on for a taste of some unusual gifts that are really out of this world.
How about some out of this world real estate? It's possible to purchase an acre of land on the moon or on the planets Mars and Venus. You can also buy items that have been on space missions to these far off places, such as a piece of a strap or parachute. These are unusual gifts that are a true piece of space history. Or, how about some astronaut food, there's no guarantee of how it will taste, but it's a very unique gift! Other space mission related gifts include torches that are designed to work in outer space and pens that not only work in zero gravity but can also write upside down and underwater! Another unusual gift idea can be to give someone a "name a star" kit; this is a great way of immortalising the recipient forever. Unless you've been lucky enough to find a meteorite in your back garden, how about a fragment of meteorite? Because these usually come in a small gift box they're ideal for that unusual gift. Meteorites are very special as they often contain minerals not found on earth.
It's possible to purchase a map of the sky for any chosen date, which makes a great gift for wedding anniversaries or birthdays, or how about a mug of the night sky which is personalised with the recipients name. Jewellery with a lunar or solar theme makes unusual gifts, how about some gold sun earrings or a sun pendant, or for that special guy how about some sterling silver moon cuff links? The moon and the sun have been worshipped from ancient times and even today people still acknowledge their role in controlling tides, weather etc. The moon is still key to the celebration dates of many major religious festivals throughout the world and there are also countless legends and folklore about both the moon and the sun.
For unusual gifts located a little closer to home, how about a telescope? The word telescope means "far-seeing" in Greek and was first used to describe one of Galileo's instruments in 1611. There are a number of different telescopes in use today; including the large basin shaped radio telescopes. An optical telescope is the type that we can use in our homes to look at the skies. There are different types of optical telescopes, but they all use lenses and/or mirrors. Basic telescopes can be bought for around twenty pounds and these are more than adequate for budding astronomers to view the night skies.
Other unusual gifts that are out of this world could be some of the many gift experiences that are available, such as a hot air balloon trip, or a helicopter flight. For the real adrenaline junkie what about a bungee jump? It was on the 1st of April in 1979 when five students were arrested for doing a jump from the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol - this was the start of the extreme sport bungee jumping. The highest commercial bungee jump nowadays is the Macau Tower in the People's Republic of China, which is a whopping 233 metre jump!
For children there are many gadgets available that make unusual gifts and are also educational. Rather than buying a conventional mobile for a new baby or a young child, why not buy an inflatable solar system that can be hung from the ceiling? Not only is it fantastic to look at but it can be used to teach a child about the universe as they grow up. Glow in the dark stars and moons will always be great stocking fillers, for children and adults alike, or you can go that one step further and buy some glow in the dark constellations.
Why not take a small step back into retro games? The mother of electronic games, Space Invaders is still around and can be bought as a mini game console. Some other games ideas include a remote controlled aeroplane or helicopter, or even a remote controlled flying saucer! These objects are celebrated on Flying Saucer Day on the 24th June. On that date in 1947 the press misquoted a pilot who saw some bizarre objects in the sky and as a result the term "flying saucer" was born! There are also many unusual gifts associated with famous space films and TV series' such as T-shirts, mugs and other merchandise. Imagine the fun that can be had with a replica light sabre, or a Type II phaser gun!
There are so many unusual gifts that are truly out of this world that you'll have such a hard time choosing between them all.
