March in Queens is a time of great celebration

. People get really excited during the lead up to summer. There are also lots of fun upcoming events in Queens for the month of May. Get out your calendar because we are about to explore some of what Queens can offer you this May. Don't forget to put on some sunscreen!

Cinco De Mayo in Queens is a fun upcoming event in NYC. Cinco De Mayo celebrates Mexico's victory over France in the Battle of the Puebla. Today is has evolved into a more general celebration of Mexican and Mexican-American culture. The biggest celebration will be held in Flushing Meadows parks. It draws Mexican American's and other Latin Americans from all over Queens and all over New York City. The party in the park features lots of face painting, traditional music and food. This free event in NYC is really fun and exciting, but it can get crowded. If you don't like the crowds you can celebrate at a number of Queens Mexican restaurants. Many have special Cinco De Mayo prefixes, live bands, and other fun stuff. Check with some of your local Mexican restaurants about making Cinco De Mayo reservations.

The end of May marks Memorial Day and to many people it is when summer officially begins. Sunnsyide Gardens holds an annual Memorial Day Fair. It features BBQ, arts and crafts, music and other fun activities to kick off the summer. Weather permitting this free event in NYC is a great way to jump headfirst into summer. Queens, which is home to a large population of veterans, also holds parades in College Point, the Rockaways and Forest Hills. These are smaller events with less fanfare but many people come out to pay their respects.

March in Queens also marks the celebration of Mother's Day! This is another one of those events that get celebrated all over Queens. Many Queens restaurants have special Mother's Day meals like The Door Restaurant or Il Toscano. If your mother enjoys food events NYC, then she will certainly enjoy a nice meal at one of Queens' many fine eateries. Belmont Park also holds Mother's Day celebration. It costs $2 for admittance into the park but all that gets you is a spot on the lawn. You have to bring your own food, drinks, and blanket. Still, if the weather is good it's a great way to spend Mother's Day.
