Upper East Side Braces - All About Dental Cavities
Numerous bacteria normally live in the human mouth. They build up easily on the teeth with a sticky film called plaque.
The Tooth decay is heavily influenced by our lifestyle by what we eat, how well we take care of our teeth and the presence of fluoride in our water and toothpaste. Then Heredity also plays an important role in the tooth decay. The cavities are generally more common among children and the adults are also at risk.
The Cavities are very serious. If it is left untreated, a cavity can destroy your entire tooth and can kill the delicate nerves at its center which may result in a root tip infection. If the abscess is serious, then it can only be treated with a root canal surgery or by extracting the tooth.
Types of Cavities:
Root cavitiesWhen we get older.our gums recede, leaving parts of the tooth root exposed. Since there is no enamel covering the tooth roots, thus the exposed areas easily decay.
Coronal cavitiesThese are the most common type of cavities. Both the children and adults are easily affected by the same. The coronal cavities are usually located on the chewing surfaces or between the teeths.
Recurrent decayThis type of decay can easily form around the existing fillings and crowns. These areas have a tendency to accumulate the plaque, which can ultimately lead to decay.
Causes of cavities:
Only your dentist can determine your. cavity. Because the cavities develop below the tooth's surface, and can't be seen easily. When you start eating foods with more carbohydrates , then those carbohydrates are eaten by the bacteria which produces some critical acids. In the time, the tooth enamel begins to break down and the surface remains intact. When the sub-surface enamel is corroded then the surface collapses to form a cavity.
Prevention methods:
Try to Brush at least twice a day and continue the floss process daily to remove the plaque between the teeth and below the gumline.
Have regular dental checkups. The Preventive steps helps us to stop the problems from occurring and can control the minor problems from becoming major ones.
Eat a well-balanced diet and avoid more starchy and sugary foods. Try to take these foods with your meal instead of a snack to minimize the acid secretion.
Use dental products that contain more amount of fluoride, including toothpaste.
Make sure that your drinking water is fluoridated. If your drinking water does not contain fluoride, your dentist or pediatrician may prescribe some fluoride supplements.
The best way to spot them and treat them is by visiting your dentist regularly for checkups.
