It is manufactured in a laboratory and requires a customized mold to achieve a proper fit. Bonding is a simple process and can be done in a single visit. This procedure is called as bonding because the material bonds to the tooth.

Bonding is one among the easiest and least expensive of cosmetic dental procedures. The composite resin used in bonding can be easily shaped and polished to match the surrounding teeth. Naturally bonding is used for cosmetic purposes to improve the appearance of a discolored or chipped tooth. It is also used to close spaces between the teeths.

Preparation: No preparation is needed for bonding. Anesthesia is not necessary, often but used to fill a decayed tooth.

Procedure:

At first Every dentist will use a shade guide to select the composite resin color that will match the color of the tooth most closely.

Once your dentist has chosen the color, they will slightly abrade the surface of the tooth to make it rough.

After preparing the tooth, your dentist will apply the tooth-colored resin. This resin is molded and smoothed until it gets the proper shape. Then the prepared mold is hardened with a help of Ultraviolet light.

Your dentist will further trim and shape as per the need. Finally they will polish the material until it matches the tooth surface. It usually takes about 30 minutes an hour to complete the procedure.

Precautions:

There are some precautionary steps should be followed after the bonding process.Tea, coffee, cigarette and other substances can stain the resin. To prevent or minimize stains, it is essential to avoid eating or drinking foods that can stain for the first 48 hours after any composite procedure. In addition, brush your teeth often and have them cleaned always

Risks:

The composite resin used in bonding is not nearly as strong as a natural teeth. Biting your fingernails or chewing an ice, pens can chip the material. Generally a single Bonding lasts for several years.But the durability depends on the strength of the bonding and your oral habits.
