Urge Urinary Incontinence – Train Your Way To Dryness
If you find yourself having frequent dire urges to go followed by your bladder emptying
involuntarily then you probably have a condition known as urge urinary incontinence or over active bladder as it is also known. This condition can change your life as your new focus becomes knowing where the nearest bathroom is and limiting your time in travel or even being in public. The good news is that it doesn't have to be that way.
Your first step in curing or managing this condition is to visit your physician for a diagnoses and a therapy regimen. Most likely your doctor will start you on a simple, natural program known as bladder training.
Bladder training is just what it sounds like. You condition your bladder to go when you want to go not when it gets the urge. This is accomplished by strictly timing visits to the bathroom. In the first week you go once an hour, even if you do not have an urge. By the end of the month you will be gradually raised to a visit every three hours and you'll keep that regimen up for a few months.
At the end of that time you will be well on your way to conditioning your bladder not to void for at least three hours. As part of this training you may be asked to keep a bladder diary which will record the times of bathroom visits, the times that you consumed fluids, which types and how much. Your doctor may recommend that you cut back or eliminate caffeine and alcohol as they are natural diuretics.
Having urge urinary incontinence does not mean the end of the world. Your doctor and you can work out a therapy and in the meantime there are a wide variety of pads and pants that can provide you with discreet protection and allow you to get on with your active lifestyle.
