In order to enhance the meaning and stature of citizenship ceremonies
, the official partnership that already exists between the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and the U.S. Department of the Interiors National Park Service (NPS) has been renewed recently.
The agreement was originally signed between the USCIS and the NPS in September 2006. This agreement facilitated linking up of Americas newest citizens to the national parks that prevail all over the country. The national parks with their historical importance an picturesque view provide the citizenship ceremonies with an ideal backdrop.
A special naturalization ceremony that took place at the Lincoln Memorial to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day was preceded with the signing of the amendment to the 2006 agreement by Alejandro Mayorkas, USCIS director and Jon Jarvis, NPS director.
Three main improvements have been brought about by this partnership between the USCIS and the NPS. In the first place, National Parks that show interest in coordinating citizenship ceremonies and come under the control of the USCIS will be matched with the respective
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Field Offices. Further, local partnerships between the USCIS Field Offices and the National Parks would be strengthened and promoted.
