Use Dvd Rental To Learn A Language

Learning a language has become somewhat of a cliche of the otherwise disengaged

. It's one of the most obvious hobbies but perhaps that's just because it's so useful.

Learning a language has been given an edge of glamour through the movies themselves.

Whether it's the language classes Colin Firth takes in 'Love Actually' in order to seduce - or not so much seduce as just randomly propose to - a good-looking Spanish cleaner or the seductive bad attitude of the translator in Godard's film 'Le Mepris' starring Bridget Bardot movies have tended to inspire language learning through their plots.

However, it's also the case that they've inspired language learning just in themselves. Who hasn't wondered if they were being misled by the subtitles or dubbing of their favourite Japanese or Chinese flick?

It's a much-spoofed phenomenon that the characters mouths seem to go one moving at least a couple of minutes after the translation.

It might take longer than the average DVD rental free trial - even the longest DVD rental free trials only last a few months - but learning a language through a DVD rental service is certainly possible.

It has the advantage that you can try out a lot of different methods of language learning without having to pay out every single time and, since there are no late fees when it comes to DVD rental by post, you can keep a disc for as long as it's useful to you without having to worry about spending a lot of money just because you're finding something particularly difficult.

Many DVD rental sites will have language learning DVDs to rent but it's likely to also be worth your while to go for a site that also allows you to rent games since these often have a language learning aspect.

Since games are more interactive they can make it easier for some people to learn a language - giving you marks so that you can see how you're getting along instead of just learning by rote.

There are a number of sites that rent games as well as films including Lovefilm and Blockbuster.

If you're sure that you just want to rent language learning games there are specialist sites for this too.

However, if you do go for games-only you're missing out on getting films out in your chosen language once you've started to pick up words and phrases.

Most DVD rental sites have a great catalogue of foreign language films and world cinema which could be useful when you're learning a language.
