I have just returned from a primary school concert and I must say that the performance of the children was a delight
. The theme for the school play was a childrens day out in natural surroundings and the big cat sound effects were very natural. The story revolved around a class picnic in the woods and how three children followed a beautiful butterfly deep into the woods and lost their way. The poor kids tried their level best to retrace their steps but alas. While on a food hunt they heard some kittens playing on the other side of the bushes. They approached them and began to play with them. Cold and tired, they curled up went to sleep.
When they woke up, they found themselves being kept warm by a lioness and those kittens were actually her cubs. The lioness sniffed them and grunted every now and then. A loud roar from the lion indicated that he was calling his family. The lioness at once stood up and let out a roar to let him know where she was. The story continued and finally after an adventurous innings with the lion and his family, the three children are rescued by a search party that had started to look for them. Everyone was relieved at their safe return.
I was very curious to figure out how the organizers had managed to incorporate these big cat sound effects so effectively in the play. So after the show was over I sauntered off to meet the organizers and congratulate them on the superb sound effects. They showed me a series of big cat sounds meow MP3 recordings which they had downloaded from the internet. It was these recorded sounds that made their task easier and gave the much needed natural ambience to the play. The sound effects on an MP3 player really made the play come alive.
They seem to have all the big cat sound effects, right from a meow to a grunt and even a roar. I can well imagine the effort it must have taken these school teachers to make this school performance such a success. Then again, a large part of their success came from these recorded big cat sounds meow MP3 clips. The people who must have actually recorded these sounds from the natural surroundings deserve a special applause for bring nature into the theatres and living rooms of people.
