So many times while shopping, I think, "oh, I have a coupon for that, but it's at home. After you clip your coupons, put them in an envelope and store them in your car or purse. They'll always be on hand, no matter where you are or where you shop. This is a good tip for all of your store coupons, whether it is for groceries or clothing or a trip to the frozen yogurt shop.
Many coupons are available in the Sunday newspaper, but if you don't get the paper, never fear, it is not the only place where coupons are available. The internet is a fantastic source for free printable coupons. Just about every product imaginable has a free printable coupon, from shampoo to dog food to baby items. Simply start up your favorite search engine and type in the product you want and add free printable coupon to your search. There are even several websites dedicated to printable online coupons.
Meal Planning Is Essential
Sit with your family and make a list of favorite meals, and then plan a week's worth of great, homemade dinner ideas. Not only will you save a bunch by eating at home, you will no doubt be eating healthier foods. You can also plan your meals around whatever free printable coupons you have and the store circulars that arrive each week via mail.
Some people take their meal planning to the extreme and create and prepare a month's worth of meals in one weekend. This makes eating at home easier because the food just needs to be reheated, and it's cheaper because you buy items in bulk or on sale or both. How many times have you either forgotten your grocery list or just didn't make a list at all? A list is essential tool to keep you on track. Create a list and organize it by grocery aisle. Make a list of produce, meats, dairy, canned goods, etc. If you have a coupon for an item, mark a C next to it to remind you. That way you won't forget to use those clipable and printable coupons.

Jumbo stores such as Target and Wal-Mart often have great deals on food, laundry and other household staples. Don't forget to bring your printable coupons for even more savings. Big Lots and those handy dollar stores are other great places to save on your grocery items. Drug stores, which also usually take those printable coupons, often offer some good deals, so check out their weekly flier, too. A fun way to save is to visit the local farmers' market, where you will find the freshest local produce and probably a few unique food items, usually at rock-bottom prices.
