Use The Services Of An Experienced Recruitment Agency To Refine The Job Search

The latest monthly survey among employers from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation

has detected small signs of returning confidence in recruitment among UK employers.

42 % of the employers asked indicated that they have plans to increase their permanent staff and 48% said they intended to retain their current staff levels. These two findings amount to a 1% rise in confidence compared with the previous month.

Although the employers were indicating slight signs of growing confidence in the medium term, the picture is less positive in the short term with a 5% reduction in the number of employers saying they intended to increase their staff levels in the next six months.

A significant majority of employers confirmed that they planned to either maintain or increase their use of temporary staff in both the short and longer term, suggesting that they were still cautious about the economic situation and were keeping their staffing options open and flexible until there was a bit more certainty about the future.

Some of this caution comes from employers' worries about the effects the continuing cuts in public sector jobs might have on their businesses.

The suggestion from all this for job seekers is that signing up with a reputable recruitment agency is a good strategy for finding work. Agencies can be a very useful resource for job seekers who are willing to keep an open mind and remain flexible about taking on a temporary role, for example.

Equally, if they have administrative, office and word processing skills and are willing to consider roles as a PA, or in office administration, regardless of their professional training, qualifications or past career history the services of a recruitment agency with good client contacts are likely to produce more opportunities.

The agencies are a good resource in another way also. Their experienced staff are able to give candidates pointers on improving their presentation considerably. This applies to tips for sharpening up the CV and having another eye to look it over and ensure that there are no spelling or grammatical errors, which are likely to send it straight to the rejects pile without the prospect of an interview.

An understated, but smart, appearance when attending an interview will be required in many companies. An agency that has a good relationship with its clients and knows them well will be able to give candidates context and background about what is likely to be expected by an interviewer as well as information about the culture of the company.

Finally, it is in the interests of an experienced agency to take care in matching appropriate candidates to clients and from the perspective of the job seeker this will mean less time wasted and a more targeted approach to opportunities.
