The term, Lazy Susan, is used to describe a small

, hand turned platform. There are many types but all have one purpose - to make accessing items easier. The most common are used in a kitchen. When doing any remodeling, incorporate one or more into your plans to increase accessibility. If you are having trouble reaching things in your kitchen cabinets, a lazy susan will come to your rescue.

A glass lazy susan on your kitchen table makes it easy to reach items like salt and pepper and napkins that usually sit in the middle of the table. In some restaurants where there is communal dining, food is put on them so that everyone can reach.

Kitchens that have cabinets that are set at right angles can use that space better by incorporating a lazy susan. A corner lazy susan sits behind two cabinet faces that look like regular cabinets placed at right angles. Sometimes the door will swing out on a hinge that is in the middle, showing a multi shelved lazy susan inside. Other types allow you to push the front and you can see the circular shelves as they rotate. They are circular, except for the right angle cutout.

A glass lazy susan with partitions is a great way to serve up peanuts, dip and other snacks. Just turn it instead of reaching across. You can also use it to display small items at a garage sale or such. It looks like a tray that rotates manually.

A lazy susan is the most efficient way to store spices. You can have easy access to them in your cabinet. No more rummaging all around for a certain spice. You have two choices, turn the cabinet into a spice lazy susan or leave the shelf as is and put a lazy susan directly on the shelf. The cabinet opens up just like any other to reveal several shelves of spices. But like those hidden rooms in older houses, the entire cabinet of shelves rotates around the center and reveals the backside with another set of shelves.

You can also use roll out shelves to get better access to items in deep cabinets. You cabinets will look and work like drawers but the sides aren't as high. You can also use tilt-out bins for easy access.

Any type of hand rotated platform can be called a lazy susan. This device can range from a platform for spices in your kitchen cabinet, to a platform that allows you to see your television from different angles to a rotating platform to aid in creating sculptures or making repairs on items.
