Use Your Works Of Art To Enliven Your Home And Life
When living in Los Angeles several years ago there was a gallery in the neighborhood where it was possible to rent paintings and/or lithographs
. After two or three months you could exchange them for others. If I remember correctly if was an ongoing monthly fee which was quite modest. Of course, you could buy them if you really fell in love with them when hanging them in your own home.
I thought that this was a great idea. It gave way to another idea. I was quite ashamed that I had never thought of it or done it myself. But, after this experience I found that we regularly, every month or so, rearranged the paintings in the house, moved the sculptures and in general made sure that we refreshed the entire collection.
There were always books that were classified as 'art books' on the coffee tables and/or by the bed. We also changed these regularly and found that we actually looked at them and read them much more often than when we just let the same old books sit there month after month.
It is not unusual to move furniture around in order to liven the place up, but I have always been amazed at how few people actually change their art works around.
I promise you that if you really will pick a day each month or every other month to change things around you will be very surprised at how new and fresh it makes everything feel.
Pictures that always hang in the same place reasonably soon reach the point where you don't really see them. I know that I have a picture that I always like to have in the entrance hall because it is bright and welcoming. However, I found that when I exchanged it for something else I saw it with new eyes and it became truly interesting again.
So my suggestion is that you can truly enlarge your love for and pride in your works of art if you will make sure that they don't stagnate.
Another thing that I have done which is really a lot of fun is that when some friend admires a particular painting I suggest that we exchange paintings for two or three months. I let them take home the painting that they admire and I go to their home and with their approval borrow a painting of theirs as a replacement.
This is a great way to enlarge your collection of paintings, sculptures and/or art books without having to buy any more. I don't know about you, but I find that I have to avoid galleries, bookstores and such unless I am willing to part with a reasonable amount of money.
Once you begin this fun exercise with your best friends you will find that it will catch fire and people you never thought would be interested in such an endeavor will suddenly find one of your paintings irresistible and you will have a new one to hang for the next three months.
Surely this is something that the artists would be most pleased about and thrilled to think that their work is being seen and enjoyed by more and more people.
So, view and review your works of art and enjoy them anew. You will be so glad you did. It will help put a smile on your face every day.
