Use the Latest Drain Cleaning Methods for Drain Cleaning and Maintenance

When a drain becomes blocked, it is vital that the blockage is dealt with as soon and as quickly as possible. Clogged up drainage systems can lead to more serious problems if they are not promptly dealt with, as they can cause problems such as cracks which may eventually lead to the pipes becoming displaced. The water leaking through the crack erodes the soil around the pipe, which gradually gets washed away by the flow of the wastewater. This can leave an empty space or hollow around the pipe which the pipe may fall or even crumple into. This type of blockage can be very expensive to repair. Sometimes the only remedy for a displaced pipe, is to excavate the ground above it by digging down to the displaced pipe, and this can be very disruptive, especially if the pipe is located below a pathway, garden, or even a roadway.

Drainage systems are used to transport foul and smelly wastewater away from a building, and into a larger underground pipe known as a sewer. The cleaning of drainage systems can present a risk to the safety and the health of any unqualified person who is attempting to carry out any cleaning procedures.

Drain cleaning and maintenance is best left to specialists who are experienced and qualified to use the latest drain cleaning methods. There is a number of different methods for dealing with dirty, blocked, and scaled pipes. Specialists in drain cleaning will inspect and evaluate the situation, and will use the most effective and economical method to help resolve the problem.

One very good method is mechanical prodding and involves the use of rods. The rods are fixed together as they are fed down into the pipe until the blockage is reached. The operator then manually pushes and pulls on the rods. The end of the rod which is in contact with the blockage pushes through the obstruction which has the effect of breaking up the blockage into smaller pieces, and this is then transported away by the normal flow of the wastewater. This is a very simple and effective method and will often clear most obstructions.

Another more modern method is drain jetting. This is extremely effective for unblocking and cleaning drainage systems and sewers. It involves the application of a jet of water applied under a very high pressure. The water force cleans and flushes away any obstruction by breaking it up with its high pressure jet. The pressure used by these water jetting machines can vary from 2500psi up to 4000psi, depending on the type of equipment that is being employed. The action of the high pressure jet can unblock and clean the pipe simultaneously, and is very effective at removing any scale or fatty deposits that have become built up. This is a very cost effective and popular method for pipe and drain cleaning, as it helps restore the pipe, and help prevent futher problems.

Other methods include chemical cleaners, which usually work by the action of corrosion. Although still in use, they are not as safe and effective as the methods outlined above.
