Use the Toteboard to Pick Winning Trainers and Winning Jockeys

We all know that there are horse racing systems that use the toteboard to pick winning bets and make money

. I can tell you from personal experience, however, that they are difficult to use because half of the money that comes into the mutuels isn't totaled and added to the pools until after the race starts. When the gate opens and the bell rings there is a momentary pause then the board flashes the final odds. Bear that in mind when you try to use the board to find a good bet.

With that being said, however, if you are willing to do some research and perhaps keep a list handy, you can actually find winning bets and eliminate a lot of bad bets just using the toteboard odds. You've heard of trainer moves and trainer stats and also jockey stats. Trainers and jockeys have their strengths and weaknesses and also are creatures of habit, just like the rest of us.

Some of the bigger providers of past performances and other racing information have trainer and jockey stats that show some very revealing information about the horse's connections. For instance, some trainers bring in a lot of long shots and their horses win at double digit payoffs. That is handy to know about a trainer if his or her horse is at 20-1 but has a good jockey on board.

While some trainers win at long odds there are others who never win at long odds and yet, their horses still go to post at long odds and some people still bet on them because they don't know that piece of information about the trainer. Here is an amazing fact. Every year millions of dollars are wagered on horses at long odds and the trainer absolutely does not win with long shots. The horse is not a long shot, it is a no-shot, meaning, it has no chance to win.

It isn't just that the horse has no chance to win physically, it is also that the trainer has instructed the rider that the horse is just out for exercise and by no means is it meant to win. How many of these horses have you bet on over the years? That is really a shame because the trainer information is available. Let's say you take the top ten trainers and riders at your favorite track and write down the odds they win at and what each one's strengths are. Then, looking at the board, you will be able to quickly and easily tell which horses really do have a chance to win. You will also know which horses should not be bet.

You will be amazed but in some cases you will be able to pick the winner or pick a few horses and the winner is among them and all you need to know is the trainer's name and his or her winning habits.
