For those of us living in cities, it's often difficult to argue the case for owning a car these days. We enjoy good public transport links and everyday comforts within walking distance: in comparison, a car seems to present little but a financial nightmare. Parking is either extortionate or impossible primarily due to a combination of stiff council permit charges and narrow, busy streets. It seems that ownership of a car, even a fifteen year old hand-me-down from a relative, still represents something that can outweigh even considerable downsides. So while a first car will inevitably be as uncomplicated as used Aygo from Newcastle, it is also the opportunity to make a real investment for the first time.
