Used Fishing Tackle
If you are a rather experienced angler you understand exactly how much quality fishing tackle costs
. While it is extremely expensive, you still want to fish with nothing less than the best tackle. Unfortunately, if you are also working with a limited budget, this can become a conflict of interests.
So what are your options when looking to purchase new equipment, but you simply cant afford the quality of tackle you need? After all, a good, reliable fly rod is around $200 and a top brand fly fishing reel is around the same price or higher. Once you factor in the price of line, flies, leaders as well as a landing net, you are looking at well over $500 at the very least. While this looks to be a lot of money, it is rather standard. If your income is somewhat average as well, then your dreams of fishing on the edge of a lake could easily be put on hold each and every year.
Fortunately, you have the option of purchasing used tackle, an option that can serve to save you a significant amount of money and get you out on the water sooner. While many people may not like the idea of purchasing anything used, many reels, lures and rods that are used can be found in extremely good condition. At the same time, these pieces are also rather easy to locate and purchase. A typical rod that might normally sell brand new for $200 can often times be found for under $50. Sound too good to be true? Any garage sale enthusiast will attest to this as yard and garage sales are wonderful places to find great deals on fishing equipment.
In areas that are known for their fishing, you can easily find used tackle for sale every week at swap meets, garage and estate sales. As long as you get there before the crowd arrives, you have a great shot and finding yourself extremely affordable fishing gear. You could even find that you completed an entire collection for under $100.
Come prepared to negotiate with the sellers of the equipment as well. Since garage sale prices are usually negotiable, the experienced buyers willing to make an offer for a lower price will usually get the best deals. Look for your towns local garage and yard sales in newspapers, on craigslist, and on community boards in the local grocery store today and find yourself fishing for less tomorrow.
