Grab or Print a Design

Head to the fabric or graphic design store and grab yourself a copy of your desired design. It could be anything - a cartoon character, catchy phrase, iron on numbers, an adjective that describes you or any piece of artwork that you can find. If you are creative and have talent on designing, you can outline and customize your own design. Draw unique iron on transfer patterns that suits your personality and style. Print out your designs on a transfer paper.

Select a Cotton Fabric

Choose a fabric or cloth you wish to print your design on. The best choice to start is a plain shirt. You can find affordable and cheap plain shirts at retail outlets or fabric stores. Cotton shirts are highly recommended for iron transfers. It will reduce the possibility of getting your shirt stretched and the transfer design to crack.

Application and Technique

Before applying the transfer design, make sure to wash and iron the shirt to get rid of wrinkles. Choose an appropriate work station. The table should be dry, flat, hard and stable. An iron board is a good option to hold heat. Preheat your iron while you gently peel off the transfer paper and laying it perfectly unto the shirt. Don't panic and rush. Slowly iron the paper in an up and down motion and gently take off the paper.

After Care

After your hard work and perseverance, you need to take good care of your newly design shirt. Wash the cloth after use by applying mild spins under cool water. This will prevent your iron on transfers to get cracks and peeled from the fabric. Dry hand your shirt and avoid using a dryer. Heat from the dryer may contribute to damage and cracks.
