Using A Cctv System With Your Alarms

A CCTV system is an arrangement of cameras around your property designed for security purposes

. CCTV here stands for 'Closed Circuit Television' and the fact that all the cameras are part of a closed loop meaning that they broadcast to each other and possibly to a central unit but not outwards so that anyone can watch it. The purpose of this then is that by monitoring those cameras it is possible to ensure that the building is empty, or to see when it is otherwise.

Meanwhile alarms for a building are also a form of security. Here the alarms are attached to an aspect of the building in order to sound if someone should enter. For instance if they are attached to a door, then they might sound when someone opens the door without a key or sound when someone opens the door at all. Likewise they could be attached to the windows, or have pressure pads so that they know where people are standing.

This way you then hopefully alert nearby businesses or residents, and at the same time you will hopefully alert any passing authorities. It might also be enough on its own without intervention from others to just scare away the trespassers who will not enjoy having that much attention drawn to them. The person who entered the building then has a certain amount to deactivate the alarm normally using some kind of PIN code in order to prevent a second louder alarm from sounding.

However one great way to maximise the effectiveness of both your CCTV system and your alarms is to link the two together so that your alarms sound when there is someone registered on the camera. This can be used to work with motion detection and even video analysis software built into the camera which then means that the alarm will only sound when there is movement on the screen, or more specifically when there's movement that registers as a human. The fact that these cameras will be hidden around the premises means that trespassers are likely to unwittingly trigger them and they will find them harder to bypass than those alarms linked to your doors particularly as there are multiple elements to a CCTV system.

Again your visitor will then most likely have an opportunity to enter a PIN to disable the alarm, or will be expected to do so before entering the building. This gives you a secure kind of access control so that you can tightly control who is allowed in and out of your building.

At the same time you can make use of other features of your CCTV along with your alarms. If you use an IP CCTV system then you should be able to watch the camera remotely on your PC or another device. This way the alarm can inform you when it is triggered, and you can then assess the situation from home without having to go out to check. Alternatively some will use VoIP to call you, and then allow you to speak 'through' the camera to ward off intruders.
