Using A Make Up Brush For A Flawless Face

Key to the perfect look is a good foundation, applied with a good make up brush.

Foundation will provide the basis for the rest of your make up, and often, a clean, flawless, healthy-looking finish will mean that you need very little other make up to look good.

A common mistake many girls make when selecting a foundation that is right for their skin is choosing one that is too dark. A too-dark base won't, as many people believe, give you a tanned appearance, but will look orangey and unnatural. If it's a healthy glow you are after, add colour on the cheeks with either a bronzer or a rouge blusher.

To choose a foundation that is right for your skin tone, carefully dab a couple of different shades along your jaw line, and then look at the colours in natural light. The one that's correct for your colouring is the one that virtually disappears; foundation is at its best when undetectable to the eye.

If using powder foundation, use the largest soft make up brush you can find, and swirl across your face after tapping off the excess powder from the brush. If you are using mineral foundation, use a special mineral powder make up brush for extra-fine and even coverage.

For a natural look, once your foundation base is perfect, you need little else other than a couple of coats of mascara to open up your eyes.

Choosing a shade of eye shadow to really bring out the colour in your eyes can be tricky, and a common mistake is to wear a colour that matches the colour of your eyes. While this is fine, it won't make the eyes stand out. For this to happen, you need to pick a colour that contrasts with your own eye colour.

Brown-eyed girls should choose vibrant blues or greens for their eyes, whereas blue or green eyes really come to life when surrounded by brown or even gold eye shadow. Use a very fine make up brush for a modern thin strip of eye shadow along the top or bottom lid, or sweep the colour all over the top lid for a dramatic evening look.

Finish the eyes with two coats of mascara; choose brown mascara unless you have dark colouring, as the black can look too harsh on someone who has light-coloured eye lashes.

Finish the look with either a rosy-coloured blusher on the cheeks, or suck in your cheeks and apply a bronzer beneath the cheekbones for a chiselled, face-slimming look.
