In the spring of 2006 the only marketing I was doing involved blogging, article marketing, and an occasional teleseminar. I did not have my own product, so I looked for other people's products and services that I could promote as an affiliate. I would then write articles and blog posts that included my link, if the person reading what I had written chose to make a purchase.There are two ways you can promote affiliate products and services with your articles. The first way is to send people directly to the other person's sales letter through your affiliate link. I still do this with many of the articles I write. The other method is to send someone to your own optin page through the link in your Resource Box. The reader then has the option of joining your list to receive your free giveaway before seeing the sales letter for the affiliate product.There are reasons to do it each way. In some niches I do not want to build my own list. This includes dog training and relationships. Even though there are many products I have benefitted from personally and love promoting to others, these are just not areas where I want to spend time.On the other hand, with anything related to making money online, technology, or marketing, those are areas where I want to build a list of my own so that I can continue to communicate with the people who opt in to my list.You must decide which niche to keep as your own, and which ones to just market to through your articles. I will tell you that sending people from your article to a sales letter will not be as effective. This is due to the fact that only about one to two percent of those who see a sales letter for the first time will decide to make a purchase at that time. Most of us, and I am definitely included in this, prefer to know more about the product and the person selling it.This is why you will have much better results if you set up an optin page and build a list of names and email addresses. Then you have the opportunity, over the next days and weeks, to connect with these prospects and to tell them more about yourself, the products and services you are recommending, and how they will benefit if they choose to make a purchase.
