When deciding on a directory for submission be very careful to read about the kinds of websites they will NOT except. Find a directory that charges smaller fees and some will let you post your url for free or exchange for a reciprocal link. You may damage your ranking with the engines by submitting to a link farm. You will want to submit to an actually directory.

If you want quality one-way backlinks post articles or blogs that are compatible with the subject of your website. Also integrate a link to your website within it's content. You don't want to break the rules of the article or blog site. If considered commercial you may not be able to post links to anything and you may only be able to post one link per article or blog.

Look for forum websites if you want to post your website URL in your signature. Join a forum that is related to your topic. A tremendous way to get free backlinks to your website is try responding to a few posts. Be sure your link reaches people interested in the subject of your website and you will start to make a difference.
