Candles are a great way to set the mood, and not just for romance. While they are perfect for a romantic dinner, they have other benefits as well. You can light them at night and read near them if you live in a home without a fireplace but still crave that type of light. You can also use them to celebrate holidays such as Christmas and New Years. You will just need a wide variety of candles and a Zippo lighter.

Using candles at night for reading is something that has really fallen out of fashion with the invention of electricity. People used to use candles or oil lamps for reading all of the time. While these are not as convenient as lights that come on at the flip of a switch, there is still something about the small flickering light that is enticing. It really makes a room feel cozy, while a white florescent light just makes a room feel sterile. Candles are ideal if you are reading before bed.

Candles are also widely used to celebrate Christmas. This is a season when decorating is at its height. Everyone loves to have as many lights as possible, though these are usually the kind that plug into the wall. Using candles can give your home a unique look that will be accented by the smell of the wax. If you buy candles that smell like mistletoe or Christmas cookies, for example, your home will really be ready for the holidays. Next Christmas, get out your Zippo lighter and set your home apart as the most festive on the block.

You should not forget, however, that candles could be very romantic. Set them out on the table to bring on a mood of romance and love. There is something about candlelight that makes a meal feel very intimate, that can help to bring two people together in a way that other lights cannot do.

Using a Zippo lighter is better than using matches because you do not have to worry about the lighter burning out while you are trying to light the candle. A match has a very short lifespan once it has been lit. If you are not very quick about lighting the candles, a match will burn down until you have to blow it out to keep from burning your fingers. This is less than ideal when you are trying to light a row of Christmas or birthday candles. No matter what you use to light them, however, candles can really enhance the mood and atmosphere of the home.
