Using Gravity Water Filters In Thirsty Countries

Water is perhaps the biggest necessity for sustaining life on this planet

. Human beings are composed of seventy percent water, and without it, we would certainly die. This is why it is such a tragedy that there are so many countries around the world that have shortages of clean water. Countries such as Ethiopia, as well as countries that are made up predominantly of desert land have massive shortages of water, and to make things worse, the water they do have is absolutely putrid and nobody, no matter how desperate, would drink it.

With the lack of drinkable water, there have been attempts to have water purification units placed into these countries, but the problem is that they have tried to do water purification on a large scale, when the water is scarce. However, there is a device that can be utilized to purify some of the water found in these countries on a smaller scale that could help thousands of thirsty people. That device is the gravity water filter. Gravity water filters use micro-filtration technology paired with the forces of gravity to remove harmful bacteria and particles from dirty water to make it clean and drinkable. While most of the time the water is not as putrid as the kind that is found in countries with shortages of clean water, the filters can still be drastically useful.

Many of the models of gravity water filters have terrific track records of being able to remove almost all traces of harmful bacteria, reducing bacteria such as E. Coli and salmonella down to less than one percent, in some cases even to a tenth of a percent. So if you were to filter out only most of the harmful elements, you could still boil away the rest of them. If deployed to these water deprived countries, the lives of many people, especially children, will potentially be saved.

While it would be expensive to mass distribute the gravity water filters out to the water deprived countries, it would be worthy simply for preserving the sanctity of human life. While it is impossible to completely remedy the lack of drinkable water in all areas of the world, when it comes to saving human life, every little bit helps, so it is obvious why these devices could make a big dent in the problem. You can also purchase gravity water filters for home use, but that is another topic.
