Much of the French property market is aimed at British buyers. If you take a look at the houses for sale, there are often massive attics waiting to become an additional two or three bedrooms.

Unfortunately, with land space in much of Britain far more precious, most houses are not so designed and architects of newer homes have often already incorporated any roof space into upstairs rooms. However, in older houses, people are becoming aware of all the space above their heads andmany homes still have a good deal of potential for converting a loft into an extra room.

Previous generations may have used the loft for storage but the garage is more convenient! Modern lifestyles are less cluttered and there is a general desire for more space within the home - adding conservatories, erecting log cabins, converting a garage or attic. Open plan living is more popular than ever. Even the illusion of space is favoured as people have bi-folding doors installed to seamlessly join the house and garden.

We also love to capture natural daylight at every opportunity. Whether the loft conversion uses Velux roof windows or creates more head height with a dormer window, the resulting light is uplifting.

There are many loft conversion 'specialists' advertising their services but choose carefully. If you want an innovative design, it might be worth consulting an independent, reputable architect / designer.
