Using Rugs In Your Home

You all too easily find several articles that tell you how to use an area rug to lend a little bit of character to any particular room

. What we'd like to do though is to show you how to spice up an entire room with the rug as the starting point.

Before we discuss further, ask yourself if you already have a theme or design in mind for a particular room. What colors do you want to use? What items do you want to incorporate? Once you've answered these main questions, it's time to shop for that perfect rug, that one thing which will become the centerpiece of your room. Given this objective, it's a good idea to choose rugs that can live up to the standard of being the room's focal point. These are Persian, Oriental and Transitional rugs. The last kind is named as such because of its ability to mix various colors and elements in just one creation. Simply put, this is a multi-faceted, flexible material.

A vital criterion in choosing a rug is its ability to catch attention. It should be attractive enough to beautify a room regardless of size. The three kinds of rug above-mentioned are usually designed with a central medallion in bright colors, which will definitely be hard to miss.

Considering other decorations is as important as choosing the right rug. Because the rug is the centerpiece, all the other decors must adhere to what complements or matches it. Select items like an armoire, table or chair that has suitable hues and textures. Why not look at the bigger picture and ensure that these things also enhance the rest of the room and not just the main rug? It will absolutely make it much, much better!

Art works are classic. They are impressive decorating pieces that add taste and class to a room. You can display colorful works or go timeless with black and white. Works of nature almost never go wrong, and lasting masterpieces of great artists are real prized possessions.

Of course, what good do the rug and paintings have if not seen properly? Pay attention to your lighting that it highlights your most significant decors and provides ample light to an important area in the room. Natural lighting like the morning sun is refreshing but come night time, there should be more than enough, not just to allow you to make your way through the room, but to add it some effects. Changing it from cheerful to cozy and festive to romantic is all about the lighting.

And finally, when all's said and done, use some more area rugs to define areas within the room. These should preferably be neutral or adorned with small patterns in colors that will enhance the main focal point of the room. Also take care to ensure that they are smaller in size than the main rug - rugs in equal size could divide the room in two.
