Using Safety Gear For Your Eye Protection

Your eyes can be injured almost anywhere, therefore it is important that you adopt all possible eye protection measures

. Experts believe that about 95 percent of your eye injuries can be avoided. To protect your eyes from damage it is important that you are extra vigilant in places where your eyes are likely to get damaged. Here are a few situations where you need eye protection.

a) When you are playing games with a bouncing ball any mistake could seriously injure your eyes. Your best defence in these situations is to be alert. You need to pay attention to what is going around and what others are doing. Every year thousands of sports related eye injury is caused to tennis, hockey, squash and baseball players. When on the court or in a field, it is important that you wear protective glasses that will protect you from possible front and side injuries. Use glasses that are made from polycarbonate or any other strong material.

b) When working at home your eyes could be injured by a flying wood chip or nails. The injury is most likely to happen when trying do-it-yourself jobs at home. Most people wear protective eyewear to save their sight when they work at home. Some popular protective eyewear used by people includes safety glasses, full-face shields and safety goggles.

Safety glass is relatively inexpensive and will protect your eyes from damage caused by hammering or slow-moving electric tools. Make sure the safety glass that you buy has the logo that indicates that it has passed all required safety tests. Most safety glasses that are available in the market are made from polycarbonate. When buying safety glasses make sure they have shields on the side that can deflect objects that come from the sides.

Full-face shields are useful if you are welding as it protects your eyes from bright light. However, these shields do not offer protection from flying objects like wood pieces and nails. Therefore it is important that you wear safety glasses under the shield.

You can also use safety goggles to protect your eyes from flying debris. Goggles like safety glasses provide all-round protection when you work with wood, chemicals, metals and plastics.

c) There are many people who get injured when they do simple jobs like mowing their lawn. You could get injured when stones or twigs get thrown out from lawnmowers. Therefore it is important that you wear protective gear when working on your lawn. At times people get injured when they trim the hedges; the branch of the tree can snap back and damage your eyes. Also, it is important that you use a face shield and protective glasses when you use a chainsaw.

d) Apart from the above mentioned jobs, there are various other activities where you need to wear eye protection gear. For example safety goggles can protect you when you paint your ceiling or when you are working under your car. If safety goggles are not worn your eyes could get damaged by chemicals and paints.
