Using The Libra Database to Organize Your Collections

If you have heard the term database, you usually automatically think that it will be far to technical for you to attempt, but thanks to this nifty piece of free software you will be able to sort your collections out in a jiffy. If you are a collector of books, CD's or DVD's you know how quickly your collection can grow. It eventually comes to the point where finding the item you need is difficult and time consuming. It is also very difficult to keep track of them if you lend them out to friends. Now there is a way that you can use your computer as a way for you to keep track of your things with ease. There is a free piece of software on the internet called Libra that enables you to easily store records and keep track of your collections. Libra also has some clever tricks to make loading up your items as painless and quick as possible.Google Libra software and follow the instructions on the web site to download the Libra software. It won't take longer than fifteen minutes. Once it has downloaded, double click on the file to start the installation wizard. Tick on the 'I accept the agreement' and next to install. Make sure to leave the option 'run libra.exe' selected and then click on finish. When Libra starts up, go to the default library, and this will create a new empty library to use for your collection. When you add items to the library, you can do it by hand which is time consuming, but will allow you the greatest control. The tag line is a useful addition, as it lets you enter descriptions of the book, CD or DVD and you can separate these by commas. This makes it easier to search for books by genre later. If you have a large collection, you can use Libra to access book, CD and DVD information on amazon. You then type in the International Standard Book Number which is normally found near the bar code on the cover and Amazon will search and get all the details for you on the book. All you then do is click on the image of the book and select add to library. If you have a web cam, you can also scan the barcode in instead of typing the International Standard Book Number. If you lend out any of your collection to your friends, you can add those friends to Libra and then click on the friend that you lent the book to. An orange banner then appears over the book indicating that it has been loaned out. When the book is returned, simply click on the Check In button. If you want to show off your collection to the world, you can use the Libra software to create a Web Page showing all the books in your collection with ease.
