Using Twitter To Promote Your Music Online
Twitter is one of the biggest social media and social networking sites in the world
. Hundreds of millions of people use the social site to engage with friends, connect with fans and share great stuff every day. There are tons of music artists in the twitter-sphere as well. Many of the major label and very famous rappers and singers are all over Twitter. They use it to share new music, connect with fans and just get their micro-blogging message out there.
If youre not on Twitter yet, you definitely want to sign up for an account. The sign-up process is fairly easy and does not require a ton of time. Once you sign up, its a good idea to follow some of the rappers and singers you admire and then find other friends on it as well. Follow whoever you want and start engaging in conversations. Twitter is basically one giant conversation. There are tons of people talking at other people, but not a lot of people talking to other people. Thats what separates the big boys and successful people on twitter, from the people just contributing noise to it.
The idea behind any social media website is to be SOCIAL. You have to engage people in conversations and add value to their lives otherwise they will ignore you. Think of twitter like a party. If youre at a party youre trying to just have fun and talk and chill out with other people. Nobody goes to a party and just keeps yelling out check out my music, check out my music. Thats a sure-fire way to get kicked out of the party and never invited again. If you simply spam people on twitter with your marketing message of listen to my song you will get ignored. And once you get ignored, its extremely hard to get people to pay attention again. So its better to not get ignored in the first place.
When youre on twitter start talking to people. Respond to their tweets, retweet the things you agree with, and share cool stories, videos and music you find across the internet. If you do this on a consistent basis people will begin to listen to you regularly. You have to build trust with them. If you can build trust with people they are more likely to check out your own music when you actually do post it. Just dont always spam people with messages of your music. You can only build trust by actually providing useful value to them.
Its usually a good idea to post your own marketing messages on a ratio of about 1:10. This means that for every one tweet you have that promotes you or your own music, you should have 9 other ones that are sharing something cool, or engaging in a conversation with people. You want to provide more useful value than pure self-promotion. You can also use things like #followfriday to tell people you think certain twitter users are worth following. Make sure you use the platform in the way its intended. Dont post spam. If youve got any other great twitter marketing tips, feel free to leave them in the comments section below. Good luck with your music marketing!
