Using Warmth To Stage Your Home In Winter
Sometimes its unavoidable; you have to sell in wintertime when the snow is on the
ground and its freezing out. Many homes dont show as advantageously in the winter as they do in the summer when plants are blooming and the temperature is comfortable.Your goal is to stage your home specifically for winter, making it a haven from the cold and snow.
Curb appeal is especially important during the winter. From the outside, your home needs to appear solid and secure against the elements. This means no peeling paint, windows in good repair, etc.Gardens should be properly bedded down and mulched for winter.Trees and shrubs should be trimmed.Your yard may be blanketed in snow, but it should appear as protected as possible.
Snow should be shoveled, not only off the walk to the house, but off the parking places, the sidewalk to the edges of your property, around the house and around any outbuildings.Plenty of de-icing is also a good idea, at least on pathways (you might want to ensure the method youre using is lawn-safe if youre looking to use it on grass). The last thing you need is someone slipping or having a difficult time getting in or out!
Inside the home, you should have the heat at a comfortable temperature. If there is no area for people to hang coats and hats and gloves, create one. Also, you may want to invest in cheap, comfortable slippers for guests who remove their shoes. This will encourage them to stay longer and hopefully let the home grow on them.If you are so inclined, you can offer refreshments such as tea, coffee, hot apple cider, nuts, apples, cookies, etc.
Your home should be extremely clean and uncluttered.Clutter is not cozy!Feel free to decorate for the holiday season, but keep the decorations neutral holly wreaths and Christmas trees are better than nativity scenes and childrens artwork. This is to help the potential buyer see themselves in your home.Personal decorations and artwork make it harder for someone to see the home as theirs.
If you are painting and figuring out a colour scheme, consider warm neutral colors, such as beige, tan, browns, olive and sage greens.Warm colours, such as yellow, can work very well in kitchens and bedrooms.Match your furniture to your colour scheme with slipcovers, throws and tablecloths.
Staging your home in winter is most successful when you try to work with the season.Using warmth as a focal point in your home warm temperature, warm colours, warm slippers, warm foods can help people see your home as a haven away from the cold and hopefully encourage them to think of it as their future residence.
