Using a zip recovery software to repair damaged ZIP file

On various occasions, you may have noticed that the ZIP files that you download from the Internet do not open in your system

. This may be happening because of some incorrect download settings. However, some ZIP files do not open even on other systems as well. The main reason behind this issue is the corruption in the ZIP files that may have occurred while uploading them on the website. To overcome such issues, I would advise you to use a third-party ZIP repair software to repair ZIP file.

Let us take an instance in which you are using a Windows XP system and download a ZIP file from a website in Internet Explorer. When you try to extract the ZIP file by unzipping it, it fails to do so. An error message is displayed, which is:

"The Compressed (zipped) Folder is invalid or corrupted."

Cause:

The root cause of such issues can be either of the following reasons:

You have not selected the 'Confirm open after download' check box.

The link that you have used to download the ZIP file uses either an ASP (Active Server Pages) page or a CGI (Common Gateway Interface) file AND you open the ZIP file directly from its location in the 'File Download' dialog box.

Because of these reasons, Internet Explorer does not save the ZIP file correctly in the Temporary Internet Files folder thereby making it corrupt.

Resolution:

To rectify this problem, you should try to download the ZIP file after performing the following steps:

Click the link for the ZIP file.

Click 'Save' in the 'File Download' dialog box to save the ZIP file to the hard disk. The 'Save As' dialog box will be displayed.

Provide a location to save the ZIP file.

Click 'Save'.

Open the file after it is downloaded and extract it.

If the ZIP file is still not opening, then it is already damaged. In such cases, you would need to repair the ZIP file using a third-party ZIP recovery software. These highly interactive tools are very easy to use and do not further damage the ZIP file.
