On the third day there were more than 2,600 of the same email in my email box again. What a waste of their time and mine because I had absolutely no interest in what they were offering. Why can't these geniuses use their time more productively and build a strong online business instead of spamming on the internet. Go figure!
A well rounded marketing plan should include some form of an email campaign. The results will be considerably less than acceptable in most cases because people just won't open e-mail from people they don't know. What a tremendous loss this transition from a good marketing venue to one of pure spam machine has made in the overall acceptance of many legitimate opportunities.
One important thing to remember is, if you're about to start an email campaign, only sending your emails to people or business who have requested information about you, your products or service. Mailing materials to those who have opted in, double or triple opted in, is even a safer bet. You don't want to get nailed for spamming so use good judgment, follow the email protocols and respect the privacy of others and you should be safe in your email campaigns.
Make sure you include the information for people to be able to opt out any time they wish. This information should be well written with clear and precise instructions for the individual to be able to opt out without any hitches and this type of information should be at the very bottom of your email offering. Don't try to shortcut this process; believe me it will come back and bite you where it hurts.
Some additional alternatives to email marketing could be flyers, classified ads, message boards, forums, directories etc.. However, it is a good and acceptable practice to ask people if they'd like to be added to a mailing list to keep informed about future opportunities once they've made a purchase from you. Whatever marketing tools you choose, make sure you use those tools responsibly and avoid spamming.
