Security tips for the summer are definitely something to think about since it is the time when people may be away from the home more often. They spend more time outdoors, go on vacations and since the weather is hotter, we tend to leave our doors and windows open more to allow the cooler air outside to come in.

Invest in timers. These will trigger your lights and other electronic devises like television or radio to come on at pre set times and will give the appearance that people are home. This is a useful thing to install when you are not home and away on vacation.
Lighting of outdoors is important because burglars or thieves do not like to approach houses which are brightly lit. If you are going away on vacation, ensure that you have informed the newspaper, the milkman and other regular delivers to put their deliveries on hold till you return. This will prevent strangers from walking up to your house more often and finding out that you are not home.
Get someone to come and check upon your house regularly. You could inform a friend or neighbor that you would be going away and ask them to check upon your house periodically till you return.
Protect sliding doors since these are most vulnerable to forced entry. Put door jambs or other obstructions in front of them to prevent burglars from breaking and entering.
