Utilising The 5 P's To Stay Ahead With Disaster Recovery

Proper planning prevents poor performance

Proper planning prevents poor performance. It is the five P's that every business should memorise and utilise. What it is basically trying to emphasise is that if you fail to plan, plan to fail. Not much of what we do on a day to day basis happens by chance. We plan out most of the aspects of our lives from our lives at work and or spare time.

One thing that you should always look into planning as a business is a disaster recovery plan for your information technology solution. Most companies utilise some form of information technology solution to store data or interact with their client base these days and if you suddenly find one day that this resource has gone or has become damaged beyond repair, then you need to find a way to recover this resource and get the wheels of business back flowing.

Thankfully there are a number of companies that offer disaster recovery solutions to businesses that require technical assistance with their information technological system. Even if the amount of expertise on site is minimal these companies can provide you with a step by step guide to work out the ideal strategy for you, and there are a number of options to consider when it comes to efficient and effective disaster recovery solutions.

So what are the different options that you could utilise to perform disaster recovery on your site. Well one option is to have a machine that will act as a central data storage unit, obviously this unit will have a large amount of data storage allocated to backup the important files from your company either hourly, daily or weekly. Ideally you would look to back up files at a minimum daily. With this solution you can either choose to backup your files to the hard disk drive or alternatively you could use some form of media to backup the data in the form of a CD or DVD data disk or alternatively on to a data tape.

Another option would be to utilise the power of the internet to back all of your data up to a secure server in a data centre. All of your data can then be recovered at any time to any number of machines. Also having a disaster recovery solution that incorporates an offsite data backup protects you from a number of basic data protection issues. You don't have to worry about your data being stolen and you also don't have to worry about what would happen to your data in the event of a fire.

Make sure that your company isn't caught out when it comes to data protection in 2010. Remember the 5 P's and stay ahead of the game.
