Toronto, Canada GAO Research Inc. (www.GAOResearch.com) is offering its V.92 Modem Software which performs duplex mode operation on the PSTN. It boasts increased upstream rates, quicker connect (QC), and Modem-On-Hold (MOH) feature that allows the modem to work in conjunction with call waiting.

This V.92 modem software is used for both the upstream and downstream connections, allowing for a maximum upload speed of 48 kb/s and a maximum download speed of 56 kb/s. It boasts adaptive techniques that enable the modems to achieve close to the maximum data signalling rates which the channel can support on each connection. It can also negotiate V.34 modulation upstream (downstream) if a connection will not support PCM modulation upstream (downstream).

The connection time of V.92 modem software is up to 50% quicker than V.90 for buffered connections. The V.92 Server Modem is a digital modem with a maximum transmission bit rate of 56 kbps and reception bit rate of 48 kbps. The V.92 Client Modem is an analog modem with a maximum bit rate of 56 kbps receive, 48 kbps transmit.

V.92 has the ability to temporarily put the 'Modem on Hold' (MOH) which is particularly useful for lines that have call waiting, allowing users to receive a phone call without having to disconnect from their Internet session. The MOH have a time limit of between 0 to 16 minutes which is set entirely at the discretion of the ISP. In addition, the software supports DSPs such as TI C5000 & C6000 series, ARM processors and ADI DSPs and OS such as Windows, VxWorks, and Linux.

This V.92 modem software belongs to GAOs family of Soft Modems. Other products in the family are V.90 Modem Software which has a maximum upload speed of 36.6 kb/s and a maximum download speed of 56 kb/s, and V.34 Modem Software which has a maximum bit rate of 36.6 kb/s. The family also includes ITU V.23 Modem Software, ITU V.21 Modem Software, and some other modem software.
