VAT on Royal Mail Products, Will Your Franking Machine Be Affected

?

Following the Government's 2010 budget, as of 31 January, 2011 VAT at the standard rate will be applied to a small number of

Royal Mail products that are currently available on your franking machine.

How will I be affected by these VAT changes? Both industry, and our own research has shown that the majority of franking machine users will be unaffected by these changes as they do not use these products. For your clarification, please find below the Royal Mail franking products that are affected:-

* Special Delivery before 9am

* Special Delivery Saturday Guarantee

* Special Delivery Next Day with consequential loss

for over 1,000

* International Airsure only to EU destinations

(European Union)

* International Signed For with Advice of Delivery to

EU only destinations

* Standard Parcels with additional compensation

Please note that the standard products "Special Delivery Next Day", "International Airmail" and "Standard Parcels" are not affected it is only when these products are selected with the additional conditions as detailed above.

Are there any other changes?

The only tariff changes (i.e. not VAT related) on 31 January will be International Signed For and Parcelforce. However, ait is probable that there will be a Royal Mail full tariff increase in April 2011, you may prefer to wait until then if you only use these products occasionally.

What do I need to do?

If I don't use any of the products affected then nothing. All other Royal Mail products, including first and second class, will remain the same so you will be able to carry on franking as usual.

If I do use any of the affected products then you'll need to get your franking machine SMART ready. Royal Mail refer to franking machines that can handle VAT as SMART meters.

How do I get my machine SMART ready?

Many franking machines can be easily adapted. If you have an older machine it may not be possible to convert, why not discuss trading in your machine for a new SMART model. If your machine is rented, take advantage of our SMART upgrade packages. You don't need to wait until the end of your contract.

Remember: Royal Mail will no longer permit you to use any of the affected products on your franking machine as of 31 January, 2011 if you don't get SMART.
