Brisbane Fact and Info

Brisbane Australia is the capital of the Queensland state and is the most populated city within this state. It is the third most populated city in Australia with around 2 million people. This city was discovered in 1799 and was inhabited by the Turrbal and Jagera people. They knew this area as mian-jin which means place shaped like a spike. When it was discovered by the European settlers in 1799 Matthew Flinders, he first explored Woody Point which he originally called Red Cliff Point after the red cliffs that he was able to see from the bay.

There are a lot of cultural festivals that happen within the city of Brisbane. There is something going on almost on a monthly basis for major cultural events. There is also a lot of leisure and activities going on all the time. There is the Ekka which is the annual Queensland Show. There is also the River Festival which is another annual event. They have an annual film festival which is held in July and August of every year which is held at various locations throughout Brisbane. There is a wide variety of tourist attractions to view within the city of Brisbane. There are the great Botanic Gardens, many parks, theatres and all round places to go. There are many restaurants of domestic and world culture foods, drinks and more. There is always lots of fun to have in the water.

Brisbane also has an extensive transportation system throughout the city. There is a rail service to get to where you are going and also bus transportation. You can also travel from one section of Australia to another via ferries. There are many ferry services throughout the country.

No matter what you have to go to Brisbane for whether it is a business trip or just for a vacation, there is something for you to do. You can always find something to do to keep yourself busy. The weather is usually warm, you might get some rain, but that's not the end of the world because there is lots you can do inside as well.

Sydney Opera House

The building's design was originally a contest held in 1956 and the winner was announced in 1957 as Jorn Utzon. The building was opened on October 20th, 1973 by Queen Elizabeth II. The concert hall itself has 2,679 seats which is the largest section of the Opera House. The building consists of 6,223 square meters of glass. The largest mechanical organ in the world is in the Opera House which consists of 10,154 pipes.

The Sydney Opera House is situated on the Bennelong Point and overlooks the harbour. The building is classified a masterpiece in both architecture and design. India tourism

The building took 16 years to build. It took 6 years longer than originally planned after many setbacks and flaws in design. Jorn attempted to fix all the flaws but with the uniqueness of the building and the unknowns involved, they weren't all easily taken care of. The Sydney Opera House also cost about 10 times the amount originally budgeted. The project was originally budgeted at approximately $7 million but by the time everything was said and done it cost about $102 million. Its construction was a 3 stage ordeal and took place from 1958 and 1973. It has since been a very busy part of Sydney's heritage.

Since the buildings opening in 1973 the Opera House has seen 87,839 performances and events. It has been a very busy venue that has averaged around 1500 events per year in front of over a million people a year. This is one of the most visited buildings in Australia with an average of over 7 million people visiting each year and more than 300,000 taking a guided tour. India Hotels

The novel written by Jon Cleary called Helga's Web was set in the Sydney Opera House. This book eventually was turned into a movie called Scobie Malone starring Jack Thompson. This story is the tale of a crime where a body was found in the basement of the building.

This building is truly one of great work and dedication. It has received the Unesco World Heritage Award. The building will continue to be upgraded throughout the years. A portion of the building will be closed for the next three years for an upgrade. This upgrade will be a new tunnel to a rebuilt loading dock for the Opera House.
