Value Based Sponsoring VS Pitching - Which One Are You Doing

So you've just joined a network marketing company and you're eager to recruit new reps into your business. Well, before you start, you need to understand that there's a right approach and a wrong approach. In this article, I will briefly highlight the two very different ways you can use to approach people. Keep in mind, it's critically important to your success to approach people properly because you only get one chance to make a good first impression. Also, these are just my opinions... you may or may not agree with them, and that's OK too.

With that (disclaimer) out of the way, let me go into the two approaches:

1. Value Based Sponsoring - Value based sponsoring, in my opinion, is the correct method of sponsoring people into your business. With this method, you're educating your prospects and sharing valuable information with them, long before they even take a look at your opportunity. You're going out of your way to connect with them and even build a mini-relationship with them, either online, over the phone or in person. This method actually allows you to give your prospect a REASON to want to partner with you. Because of the internet, a lot of network marketers have forgotten than network marketing is all about relationships, hence the term relationship marketing. It's critical that you build relationships with people if you want to have big-time success in your business. After all, people do business with people they like, know and trust. By giving away your VALUE, which in turn builds TRUST, you'll become a MAGNET for prospects, both reps and customers. And because, so few people believe in value based sponsoring, you'll automatically separate yourself from everyone else online and you'll stand out from the crowd.

2. Pitching - Pitching, in my opinion, is the wrong way to sponsor people into your business. This is when people spam your inbox, or email, with "Join The Best Company In The Industry", "New Super Galactic Double Reverse Matrix Comp Plan", "Most Amazing Pre-Launch In The History Of The Universe" garbage. Personally, when I get emails like that, I delete them. The other day, I actually got one that said, "Blah, blah, blah... I will be YOUR sponsor!" Why would I want that person to be my sponsor? They're not even making an effort to connect with me on a personal basis. And if they don't put an effort to connect with me BEFORE I join their business, you can forget about AFTER I join when they've already made a commission from me coming in. You would think, that before they get paid, they'd at least make a little effort. On top of that, that person was not giving me an inkling of a reason to even want to partner with him. What value can he provide me? He obviously can't teach me how to market because his idea of marketing is spamming people's emails.

The sad thing is if he had taken the time to connect with me, I may have taken a look at what he was doing. At the very least, we could have become friends. But I deleted his email and chances are I'll never speak to him. That's what happens when you're pitching, spamming and making a bad first impression. You ruin your reputation and repel experienced leaders.

If you're going to build a network marketing business online, I want to encourage you to take the value based approach. It may take a little more effort on your part but doesn't your business deserve your best effort, anyway?
