Vampire Weekend Tickets - Follow Vampire Weekend On Their Current Tour
Vampire Weekend recently played at The Orange Peel in Ashville
, N.C. Pop music may seem out of place in a town that warmly welcomes roots tunes, but Vampire Weekend proved that the times, they are changin'. The band specializes in poppy, upbeat dance tunes and it's nearly impossible to not be up on your feet at one of their live shindigs.
Thus was the story at The Orange Peel. According to a review on Mountain Xpress, the packed house was full of crazed fans singing along in "booming unison." Really, there is no better concert review than the words "booming unison." If you missed out at The Orange Peel, there are plenty of other opportunities to see a live show. Vampire Weekend has several dates marked on their tour calendar this year. They are scheduled to be on the road until mid-September where they will play two nights at the Radio City Music Hall. Other stops include New Orleans, La.; Austin, Texas; Tempe, Ariz. and Indio, Calif., the latter of which will have them performing at this year's Coachella Music Festival. Then the dance-pop group will pack their bags and head out for a world tour, stopping in countries like New Zealand, Australia, Norway, France, Spain and Portugal.
The buzz really started growing around Vampire Weekend in 2007; with an extensive tour and a forthcoming debut album, the New York City musical outfit was finally on its way to stardom. And indeed, the stars were aligned. Their self-titled first album made an impressive debut on the Billboard charts, claiming a spot in the Top 20 and earning accolades from fans and critics alike. In fact, their first effort was so successful that they spent the next two years on the road promoting the record to overly elated fans. Some bands have the frustrating habit of sounding exactly the same live as they do in the studio. This is not so for Vampire Weekend, whose live performances are always full of spunk and energy.
While much of their time is spent traveling, the band did not hold back when it came time to slip back into the studio. Their most recent album, and the one that has fans pumped up, is called Contra. It's hard to nail down a sophomore album when you're following on the heels of a highly-praised debut, but Vampire Weekend walks away with another winner as Contra is just as charming and - some might say - even a bit more sleek as their first release.
The album features the new ballads "Horchata," "White Sky," "Cousins" and "Diplomat's Son," among others. It's fun, fancy and full of unique guitar riffs and bouncy pop music material; it makes everyone feel just a little antsier in anticipation of what their third album might sound like. Judging from their previous issues, it's a good bet that once again Vampire Weekend will strike gold...and perhaps even platinum. See them perform live onstage in a city near you!
