The Maxus is a commercial van produced by the van maker LDV, it was launched in 2004. Initially the Maxus was jointly developed by LDV and Daewoo Motor, pre Daewoo's collapse. After General Motors purchased Daewoo Motor, LDV secured the exclusive rights to the Maxus, purchased all the tooling and equipment then moved production from Poland to Birmingham in the UK.

The Maxus has won many awards in its short life time; it was awarded the Professional Van and Light Truck Magazine "Van of the Year 2005" and has since won several further awards including "Van of the Year", "Minibus of the Year" and "Combi of the Year".

The LDV Maxus has been receiving great reviews and has sold well across the UK, it has become very popular with hire firms and the UK Police service, and some large companies such as Royal Mail and Transco also use the Maxus as their fleet vehicle model.

In 2006 LDV was acquired by GAZ (Gorkovsky Avtomobilny Zavod) the Russian automotive giant. It is rumoured that GAZ had the intention of moving production of the Maxus to one of its Russian plants.

Unfortunately production at the Birmingham plan was suspended in 2009 due to lack of funds from GAZ. During the peak of the recession 800 workers were made jobless and the van building operation was left in major doubt.

Van sales in Kent suggest the LDV Maxus is a very popular commercial vehicle, which may be why China's SAIC, which bought most of the LDV assets, plan to launch the Chinese version of Maxus in late 2011.
