Vancouver Bc's Kitsilano Neighborhood

Kitsilano or Kits, is a very trendy and popular neighborhood on Vancouver"s West side

. Most of the streets in Kitsilano are bicycle friendly and lined with large trees and help it look fantastic in the spring, summer and fall. It has its own beach, Kits beach, complete with several beach volleyball nets, basketball courts, a kids playground, an outdoor saltwater swimming pool and a beachfront restaurant called Watermark. Of course who can forget all the attractive sun bathers. The beach is adjacent to various restaurants and other waterfront hang outs. Along West Broadway starting at Burrard St, there are many pubs, restaurants and a small few bars stretching all the way to Alma St. West 4th is another popular spot for restaurants and pubs. There are all sorts of businesses in Kits, not just food and beverage.

Kits has a large number of detached houses in approximately the 1 "" 1.5 Million dollar price range. Houses in the beach area will be significantly more depending on how close to the water they are, lot size and how new and well built the home is. Cornwall Ave which turns into point Grey rd has the most expensive Real Estate in Kits, with a long row of houses directly on a cliff along the water, all with perfect unobstructed views of the beach, water and mountains. Some of these homes can range up to 15 million for a nicer one. Many of Vancouver"s celebrities live along this stretch of homes offering them privacy yet smack in the middle of a beautiful neighborhood 5 minutes from downtown.

There are various rental apartment buildings in the area and many condo developments along 4th Ave with prices starting at about $350,000 for a decent 1 bedroom suite and about $550,000 for a 2 bedroom suite.

There is two high school, Kitsilano secondary school and Fraser Academy. Numerous elementary schools including Henry Husdon, Lord Tennyson, Bayview, Trafalgar, General Gordon and Carnarvon, some of which have French immersion programs. All these schools are popular and are seen as good schools for children to attend.

Vanier Park is a waterfront grassy park that plays host to the B.C. Children"s festival in the summer months. This park is on what was a Coast Salish Indian reserve about 100 years ago. The Maritime museum with the "St Roch" commissioned in 1928 is a historical RCMP ship and the first vessel to sail the Northwest Passage West to East is on display here. The Blodel Space Center, formerly the Planetarium, and museum is also right on the water. Weekend evenings the Space center hosts laser shows played to Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin in a dome shaped theater.

All in all, this is a very popular beautiful place to live in the city with many things to see and do.
