Varieties of Fascism - Fascism in the 21st Century

The 19th century saw the triumph of democracy, the great days of representation of people through parliaments, congress, senates and other democratic institutions. Society was through social contracts agreeable to everybody.

Then followed the 20th century, a period marked by men who stood up against these traditions of representations. The 20th century was marked by men with tendencies for authoritarian, antiparliamentary and antidemocratic systems. Men like Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Joseph Stalin are a case in point. All these tendencies have their seeds sown in the 19th century. The prosperous, law-abiding people are decadent and corrupt. Only dynamic men, ruthless in thought and action could save the human race from human laws.

There are two ideas that political movements such as the Tea Party operates: theory and practice. Many people have been fascinated by fascism in Germany and Italy during the 20th century. And in doing so forgot to consider similar movements and doctrines in other countries. And yet the essence of political ideologies and movements are to be found before they arrive, while they are still just ideas found in books and sporadic protests as well as internet blogs- that is the time they are formulated and organized by on seed form level.

Modern fascism is in effect an opportunistic activism inspired by dissatisfaction with the existing order, but unwilling or incapable to take a position of its own, rather instead of breaking up from the mainstream, modern fascism would rather remain within, emphasizing how decadent things are, how corrupt and dysfunctional things are. It is easy to laugh and brush aside these tendencies as stupid but consider that many revolutions throughout history were carried by people who did not know what they wanted, but knew very well what they opposed. Consider what Oswald Mosley the founder of British Union of Fascists once said in 1932: "It would be folly to describe precisely in advance the road by which we shall attain [our principles], no man goes very far who knows exactly where he is going..."

Consider further what the Belgian Leon Degrelle (1906-1994), the founder of Rexism (another variety of fascism) said: "You must get going, you must let yourself be swept away by the torrent... you must act. The rest comes by itself". Consider the song which was sung by followers of French Popular Party (another variety of fascism): "It is not the program that counts; what counts is the mentality of the party that proposes the program". Drieu La Rochelle the great French author and proponent of French fascism wrote in 1936 "Do not ask us first what our program is, but what our mentality is. The French Popular Party spirit is a spirit of life, of action, of speed".

Fascism lives and thrives in an atmosphere of crisis - the current climate of economic recession - it is the breeding ground for fascism. You may see movements which are similar to the Tea Party emerging. All fascisms see themselves as a last recourse to the danger everyone sees. Fascism addressed itself to feelings, not to intellect. The reason for this is because intellects and reasoning invites examination, speculation. Feelings can be shared.
