Treatment plans include outpatient and inpatient treatment, counseling, and support groups. The goal of this treatment is to help the client in their efforts to achieve a drug and alcohol-free life.
Detoxification
Detoxification is done with the goal to clean the system of the abuser from the drug or alcohol. According to the National Office of National Drug Control Policy, this particular process makes patients experience painful withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sweating and tremors. In severe cases seizures happen. Patients during this stage are under close assessment and monitoring. Detoxification only manages physical weaning from the substance. Psychological symptoms should also be addressed through counseling.
Inpatient Treatment
Inpatient therapy lasts from 14 days to a month depending upon the patients needs and severity of the addiction. This particular treatment gives a 24-hour monitoring since the patient lives inside the treatment center. The abuser attends psycho-therapeutic groups that tackle the process of addiction and the ways to manage cravings for the addictive substances. Patients attend coping-skills training that teach them problem solving, management of conflict, and communication. Maladaptive behaviors are changed through behavioral therapies.
Outpatient Therapy
Some drug rehabilitation programs now use out-patient drug abuse programs for patients who choose not to be confined but would still want to receive treatment. They'll just be scheduled to go to the facility for treatment and return home after each treatment sessions. According to the International Center for Alcohol Policies, treatment programs should include motivational enhancement to motivate the patients to remain drug-free for life.
Recovery Help
Alcoholic Anonymous and Narcotic Anonymous are 2 helpful support groups that help client achieve their goal to be sober all throughout their lives. These groups utilize the famous 12-steps to recovery plan. They share their stories of success to people who have gone through the same experiences.
