Vehicle Stinks? Could Indicate Trouble
You'll find nothing more delightful than a smell of a new car
. Very little can compete with the pleasant aroma that the combination of leather and plastic can provide. Of course, in a short time, many of us purchase air fresheners to make it smell like vanilla or melons. And that is alright, everyone finds different aromas appealing. Having said that, what will happen if you start taking note of an odd smell in your car. In this article, we will take a look at just what certain smells could indicate for your car.
One odor that you might encounter is something that smells sickly sweet. Most of the time this is the result of a leak in your coolant unit. Any leak, no matter how small, in your coolant system should be fixed right away. You may encounter an odor that is really strong. This intense smell indicates the heater core is leaky. You simply must have this checked out and fixed because the fumes are dangerous if inhaled for too long.
Some people will realize that when they are in the car they can smell the exhaust. It can be quite possible that you've got a hole in your exhaust system. And when the smell is truly bad it could also mean that your doors are not closing properly or you may have rusted out holes in your floorboards. No matter the reason you happen to be smelling the exhaust again this is something to get fixed as breathing in these fumes can cause critical health issues.
One thing that happened to me a few months ago is that I went to the gas station and filled up and once I left the station I still smelled gas. I didn't think much about it at first and then the next day when I got in my car I could still smell the gas. It turned out that I had a leak at the top section of my fuel tank. It is probably the most dangerous smell since any spark could possibly trigger a fire. And I Also don't have to tell you what goes on when your fuel tank catches on fire. So if you ever notice gas, get your car to a repair shop immediately.
And finally, you may notice a rotten egg smell. It is in all likelihood that the odor is caused by a plugged catalytic converter. This isn't necessarily dangerous to your overall health but it could result in some damage to your car if it's not taken care of in a timely manner. So when you have that rotten egg smell, take your car in and make sure it's checked out.
You might wind up smelling some other peculiar odors. Keep in mind this is your car so if you smell something strange there is probably a problem and you should get it to the shop.
