Vehicle health check great piece of mind

If you are as paranoid about your car breaking down as I am then every little noise, every vibration and every smell will make you panic. Recently I have found the answer to my paranoia; many dealerships now offer a free health check when you service your car with them.

Mazda carried out a free health check on my 3 year old Mazda 6 when I bought some Mazda Parts in Essex. They carry out a visual check on 33 items including brakes, tyres, suspension, steering and lights.

They produce a traffic light like report, every item they check is categorised into 3 classes, green, amber and red.

Green: everything appears to be okay

Amber: work needed soon - before next scheduled visit

Red: urgent work - dangerous, illegal or defective

Fortunately I had no items in the red category; my front 2 tyres came in the amber category so I got them changed to be on the safe side. Mazda also provide you with a comprehensive quote on the repair work should you have any faulty items.

After the safety check my paranoia calmed down, for a few months anyway! With modern cars there is such much that can go wrong with the electrics and the fault can't be pre-empted, the only way to avoid breakdowns and major repair bills is to always get your car serviced regularly at a reputable garage if not a main dealer.

With winter coming up I'll be even more paranoid, but at least I know I've done what I can to ensure my car is in good health.
